About Me

About Me

I believe that therapy works best when it’s grounded in both professional expertise and genuine human connection. I bring a wide range of experience to my counselling work. I’ve supported people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, worked with NHS referrals in community settings, and provided accessible low-cost counselling online. Earlier in my career, I worked as an Assistant Psychologist in both in-patient and community based brain injury services, and I’ve also led projects in the learning disability sector. Alongside this, I have years of experience as a music teacher and group facilitator, where I learned how creativity can open up new ways of healing and self-expression.

Outside of my professional training, my personal journey has also shaped the therapist I am today. Music has always been a source of strength for me, carrying me through some hard times.

For much of my life, I felt like I didn’t quite fit in. At times I was told I was “too loud” and “too much” and pushed down, or made to feel as though I wasn’t worthy of love and didn’t belong. Over time, this chipped away at my confidence and led me into self-destructive habits as I tried to cope and find my place in the world.

Through self-reflection, I began to recognise and rethink those patterns, and gradually, I rebuilt a sense of self worth that wasn’t defined by other people’s expectations. A big part of that journey has been surrounding myself with people who love me for who I truly am.

I know some therapists choose to keep their personal experiences completely separate from their work. For me, I’ve found that sharing parts of my story, only when it’s relevant and helpful, can create resonance and understanding with my clients. It lets them know they are not alone in their struggles, and that change and healing are possible.

Facing these challenges, alongside physical health difficulties, has given me a deep respect for the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of meeting ourselves with honesty and kindness. I truly believe that a life rooted in self-reflection, self-care, and self-compassion is the key to feeling fulfilled and content. This belief underpins the way I work with my clients.

You don’t have to know exactly what you want to say, just starting the conversation can help. I offer a free 20 minute online consultation so you can get a feel for working with me, ask questions, and see if it feels right for you. Sometimes the smallest step can open the door to real change.
