The Change Tune Method™
The Change Tune Method™
A different way to explore your feelings.
Sometimes words aren’t enough.
The Change Tune Method™ is a gentle, creative approach to therapy that uses music to help you explore and express your emotions. It was developed through my research into how listening to music can support emotional wellbeing and deepen the therapeutic process.
Many of us have experienced how a song can move us, bring back memories, or shift how we feel. This method builds on that natural connection between music and emotion.
Why music?
Music is something most people already use in their daily lives to manage feelings, whether that’s to feel calmer, more energised, or understood.
Despite this, recorded music has traditionally been underused in therapy settings in the UK. My research explored how a simple, safe method could bring music into sessions without requiring specialist training or equipment.
Music can:
- Help access emotions that are hard to put into words
- Create a sense of connection and understanding
- Support reflection and self-awareness
- Offer a familiar and comforting starting point
What happens in a session?
The process is simple and led by you.
You’ll be invited to choose a piece of music that feels meaningful to you. This could be a song that reflects how you feel, something from your past, or something that’s been on your mind.
We then:
- Listen to the music together
- Notice what thoughts, feelings, or memories arise
- Gently explore your experience through conversation
You can also use a simple reflection sheet if you’d like prompts to guide your thoughts.
There is no “right” way to do this, your experience is what matters.
How it can help
The Change Tune Method™ creates space for you to express yourself in a way that goes beyond talking alone.
It can:
- Help you feel more understood and connected
- Support emotional expression, especially if words feel difficult
- Encourage new insights and perspectives
- Give you more control and choice within the therapy process
Many clients find it particularly helpful if they are neurodivergent or if traditional talking therapy feels limiting.
What my research found
Therapists who used the Change Tune Method™ reported very positive experiences. They found it simple to learn and easy to integrate into their existing way of working. Most felt confident using it after a short introduction and began combining it with other creative approaches.
This suggests that even small changes, like bringing music into the room, can open up meaningful new ways of working together.
Is this right for you?
You don’t need any musical knowledge or ability to take part.
All you need is a willingness to explore your inner world in a slightly different way.
If you’ve ever felt deeply affected by a piece of music, then you already have everything you need to begin. The Change Tune Method™ takes place as part of a standard therapy session with me, you don’t need to book this specifically. Please contact me to talk about booking.
